Make friends with someone who owns a basic multi-meter and knows how to use
it. Or buy one for yourself and learn how to use it. (a basic one for < $10
should work for this) Find out which monitor pins are supposed to connect
to what wires on the circuit board. Use the meter to check if they do.
Then you can start worrying about the messy soldering part.

The monitor wires themselves SHOULDN'T have any dangerous voltages on them.
(But in a busted monitor who knows?) Be very careful not to poke anywhere
else with the meter probes, don't touch the metal bits of the probes with
your fingers while you're working, don't do anything if you're not
comfortable working around things that can shock you and throw you across
the room while simultaneously shooting shards of broken glass all over the
place.
