I have just picked up a 8500/120, and I already have an 9500/120, which I have overclocked to 150MHz. Has worked flawlessly in the 9500 for a few months now.
I tried to put the 150 MHz card in my 8500, but no startup, no Video, good bong, that is it. Tried the 8500's original 120 MHz card, no problems. I looked at the chips and the 604 on the 8500's 120 MHz card is a very small IC, maybe 1in or less package, and the 9500's 120 MHz processor is a larger 1.5-2in QFP. What is the difference? And why does one not work in the other? I have not tried the 120 from the 8500 in the 9500 yet. Is there any 604/604e FAQ's out there?
