DVD/RAM allows reading and writing, much like a CD-RW in the standard world.

DVD/ROM is just read only, like a standard CD.

As for transferring from a VCR to a DVD, I bet there will be a way to do it.
It would be silly if you couldn't. If the DVD/RAM is in a computer you may
have to input it into the computer, encode into DivX or something, and then
burn it. I'd guess that stand-alone DVD/RAMs would have a "record" feature
much like VCRs do, though I haven't seen one before.
