Hello David,
DVD-RAM is not permanent!  You can write it over and over again.  But
you have to write the entire disk over again.  That can be a drawback.

DVD-ROM is read only.

DVD-R is like a CD-R but as of yet there are many formats.  Some can NOT
be used in your DVD player and some can.  I believe Panasonic has one
that records for a DVD player [television], DVD-RAM [Type 2 Disks for
computers] and DVD-ROM players [computer], sells for $999 at last look.
