Dont know about VCD's but for lp's to CD, you need either a preamp in between the turntable and the audio inputs or a turntable with an inbuilt preamp - I belive that Tandy sell these now, although they have been hard to find in the recent past. The software I use is Toast Titanium. Very easy to use, and as far as my non audiophile ear can tell, quite acceptable sound quality.
I use a 7600/120 with an external scsi 9g HD and OS 9.1 Toast record the msic to your HD, so you need up to 800mb spare for each lp, then it digitises it and then you have to identify the tracks. Toast can do that but cant distinguish between quite spots in the music and track ends. You can record to CD without identifying tracks, but then you cant scan for your favourites cos the LP will have been recorded as one long track.
