The stock 7500 has a 4X CD-ROM drive. Whether that makes a difference or not depends on what you want to do with it. The speed of burning doesn't affect what speed you can read it at, either way. If you want to copy from the CD-ROM drive to the CD-R then obviously the fastest you can burn a CD is the same speed as the reader. This can work, I did it once but if there is a hiccup you have a coaster. IF the buffer is large enough it should work. I was using a 4Mb drive buffer and 32Mb RAM buffer when I did it. But the best way I've found to copy disks is to turn them into a Disk Copy image (the utility from Apple). If you use replace the built in CD-ROM drive with the CD-R you probably won't be able to boot from it to run diagnostics or install an OS. Speed is relative. I have an 8X CD-R and find it sufficient for my needs. I find that organizing the files to burn a CD-R takes longer than burning it so the 20 minutes it takes to burn and verify a disk isn't a big deal. If I were making multiple copies often then a faster burning speed would be useful. -- Clark Martin Redwood City, CA, USA Macintosh / Internet Consulting [EMAIL PROTECTED] "I'm a designated driver on the Information Super Highway" -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
