Hmmm, besides the thread being on the wrong email list, I would like to
say that running X on an unsupported machine is cheaper. I live in
Canada and I have saved at least a couple of thousand dollars, even with
the upgrades I have made to my system.

My system:

7300 w/450Mhz G4 and 336 Megs,
ATI Radeon for Macintosh,
ATA 66 PCI card,
2 hard drives (20 & 40 Gigs) & DVD attached to ATA card,
USB 2/Firwire PCI card (for the easier, cheaper upgrades),
USB Scanner,
cordless USB mouse,
and of course Mac OS X 10.1.4.

I would of made the same upgrades if I were running X or not. As of now
X is quite stable but as any *nix system is always a work in progress.
If you need new hardware and the greater speed then go for it but if you
are just doing standards at home then running X is a great way to go and
will prepare you for when you do buy a new machine.

Just my 2 cents...

I don't make mistakes, I just have unexpected learning opportunitys.
