Thanks for the advice people, a friend popped round, reckons he may have some 5v memory, wanted the 8500 rather than his 8100 since the former runs NetBSD whereas the latter won't. So I'm about to become the owner of the working 8100 with 80Mb ram & 9Gb of disks, as I'd rather run Mac OS8.x, so I'll be off to 1st-powermacs list.
