I no longer have any problems; not sure what conclusions if any can be drawn

Both Velocity Upgrades and Other World Computing are using the same printed
circuit board for their current runs of $19.95/$20.95 FPM/EDO sticks.

The differences are these:

1) VU is having an EPROM placed in the stick ... which should ordinarily be
ignored by any Mac; OWC is not having an EPROM placed in the stick;

2) Both appear to be using "spot market" chips ... meaning they buy whatever
is available at the instant, and probably for "spot cash".

I have three separate incarnations of VU/OWC sticks, all FPM, and all behave
the same.

In every instance, the chips themselves were factory tested ... they were not
"untested" chips.

There are subtle differences in 128 MB sticks, and those from the current
batch appear to have a number of interesting idiosyncrasies.

The 128 MB sticks I bought a year ago for something like $149 per stick
(about $1.15 per megabyte) will work in ANY machine I have tried them ...
even the infamous "anus" (Apple Network Server).

The $20 sticks (about $0.16 per megabyte) will not work in an ANS, but they
do work in every other machine I've tried them in ... 7500s, 7600s, 7300s,
8500s, 9500s and 8600s (both non-Mach5 AND Mach5 models).

Incredibly, the $149 sticks and one incarnation of $20 sticks both used the
same Micron Technologies RAM chips. The differences were in the powering of
the sticks and the method of buffering the data to/from the bus. Perhaps a
board layout problem.
