There was a whole thread a while back regarding the topic of
networking but I was in and out of town and away from my computer so
much I couldn't follow it to know if this issue was covered:

I have not been able to get my 8500 and 9500 to recognize each other
with a direct mac to mac interconnect via a crossover cable and the
(RJ-45) ethernet ports. Is there an issue with older macs in this
regard? I connected the 9500 to my wife's iMac in the same manner, no
problem. I can't really justify buying a hub and two cat. 5 cables to
connect two macs sitting next to each other when I already have
invested in two Zip drives that will more or less accomplish the same
thing. I suppose there is something else in the set-up I could be
overlooking but just wondered if anyone knows of an issue using a
crossover cable to network these two machines. TIA

Mike
