How different is the 9500 power supply from the Q950?

Light years.

The Q950 power supply (also used in the PPC 601-based 9150) outputs +5 volts
to the motherboard (among others). PPCs need +5 volts and +3.3 volts. The
9150 generates the required +3.3 volts on-motherboard. The 9500 power supply
generates the +3.3 volts in the power supply itself.

The capacities and form factors are also radically different.
