I have, as you probably guessed, just got a 7300. Well I've had a torrid few days with it recently. First it crashed and damaged the partition tables unrecoverably on one of my partitions (the one with the unrecoverable data on as according to Murphy's law) but thankfully I had most of it backed up, apart from the 3.2GB of MP3s. I had to recover what I could and reformat. This is not a SCSI hard disk, for the record, it's an ATA/100 drive attached to an ACARD SCSIDE bridge.
Having spent a day rebuilding and restoring everything I still could I found it ran a lot faster (due to the lack of carved up hard disk, it had been in an 840av while I was tooling with AV stuff) and a lot more reliably apart from one slight problem. I experience freezes in 9.1 a lot. It seems to just get to a certain point and give up, usually while doing seemingly mundane things like reading e-mail. It only has 64MB RAM but I make sure it never runs out and has a bit to spare. The original fatal freeze that fragged half the drive was due to a faulty power cable (lucky it didn't damage the drive surface!) which I solved during the repair. The only other thing I can think of is to remove the 256k Cache stick on it, could it be this? Has anyone else suffered freezes in 9.1? I can't get the PC card to run for more than about 10 mins without freezing under 9.1 either. It appears that both the PC card and the Mac itself are fairly stable under 8.1, no freezes at all and it was running for 4 or 5 hours running both the PC card and the Mac desktop. -- -- Mark Benson SilValleyPirate - AIM silicon_valley_pirate_uk - Yahoo!
