I bought a used 8600/300 OS9.1. Works fine with one exception, the first
time I tried to use the floppy drive - an installer for G3 upgrade - it
opened the disc but when when I tried to install the software, the drive
started making a lot of noise, then the OS crashed. From that point on the
drive won't "recognize", and wants to reinitialize, any disc I put into it.
Is this a driver issue? Is the drive bad?

I hadn't installed the G3 hardware before I tried to install the software,
could doing that operation in the wrong order have screwed up the floppy
drive or driver? It is the dustiest machine I have ever seen, could that be
a factor?

Thanks for your input.
