I am wondering if anyone else has experienced troubles using a syquest
removable drive on a system 8.1 - 9.1 on a PCI powermac?

I bought several drives recently that came with a bunch of shrinkwrapped
cartridges. I wanted to be able to transfer a large quantity of work between
home and office.

On my 9500 at work, I began to get random boot up problems. During the boot
process, it would halt with an error message about an appleshare problem and
a numeric error number. If I booted with extensions off, I could start.
Extensions on, it would not start. I would re-install the system and carry
on for days/weeks/ etc. until the same error would happen again.

Finally (I feel stupid about this now), I disconnected the syquest drive and
it booted just fine, even after getting the system error message. If I
hooked the drive back up, it would not work. Disconnect it - no problems.

I tried using the same drive on a 7200 at work and it would not boot even
once if I had the drive connected. It's been a while now, but I believe it
might have booted if I turned the drive off, but left it connected.

This same problem happened with another drive as well.

Now, my 9500 doesn't seem to work with my external burner anymore, although
it does work fine with a scsi scanner. Not sure whether this is related or
not?

Any ideas of what is going on? Are my drives bad? Are there
incompatibilities? I tried switching over to Silver Lining Lite, but it
didn't change anything.

I have disconnected all these drives and am afraid to use them until I sort
this out.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tom Wilkinson
