I would stay away from using Silverlining Lite if older than version 2.2.2 there is a conflict with OS's after 7.6.1 IIRC. At one time there was warning posted on the LaCie website about using it. With OS 8.6 and 9.1 you don't need any driver just check the box "PC SCSI Disks - Mount at Startup" in the File Exchange Control Panel. In OS 8.1 in the PC Exchange Control Panel, click options and place a check mark before the drive listed there. OR -- you can use SyQuest Utilities 4.01 still available the legacy SyQuest Website and Version Tracker. I have found SU 4.01 usually works OK with all OS's through 9.1 but have found occasional conflicts with other 3rd party CP's and extensions. In which case you can use SCSIProbe or Mt. Everything as the driver. Generally I have used most SyQuest drive models on Mac's ranging from an SE with OS 6 to a G3 upgraded 7500 with OS 8.6 and a 7300/200 with OS 9.1 with few problems; currently running four drives on two PCI Macs and two older Macs. Also check the termination. Some of the newer drives are self terminating (the EZ 230 and SyJet for example), the older ones need to be physically terminated if at the end of the SCSI chain. Finally check the SCSI ID. You can change the SCSI ID easily from the back of most drives unless you have an EZ Flyer 230. Then you will need the manual (or contact me an I'll explain how to change it). I did have a board failure on one of the drives that did cause a bunch of strange SCSI voodoo type problems. This is rare. Usually the drive mechanisms will fail first. Good luck --glen -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
