I got the itch to get a USB card about a month ago. I had been using 8.1
on my 7300/200 and realized that I needed a newer OS to accomplish this.
(min. 8.6 needed to run a USB Card)
I went to a trusted Mac authorized reseller, and found an ADS USB card
with 2 ports. I spied a volume of OS 9.0 and 9.1. I was instructed to
get 9.1 as 9.0 had 4 updates that fixes bugs in 9.0. So I did. I also
had to download an additional driver to run it. The name of the file is
USB Card Support 1.4.1.smi.(from Apple) I had trouble with doing so, and
after asking the list I was sent 2 emails (offlist) with the files.
After installing it (OS 9.1, the USB card and the driver) I restarted
and voila, I had a USB card, fully functional. As a precautionary,
always use a grounding wrist strap to prevent any damage to your
computer when you open it up and work on it. Clipping the alligator clip
to the frame and touching the power supply casing should prevent any
electrical shock (static electricity) from arcing to your IC's.
Enjoy!
