Installed a XLR8 Carrier Zif, in my 8500, this weekend, and it worked like
a charm at the standard settings. I adjusted the dip switches (for a small
increase) just to see how the machine would act. The machine would not
restart (no chime) and had a blank screen. I reset everything under the
hood, CUDA, RAM, etc, with no change in the results. I then reset the PRAM
and now the machine will chime and begin its startup in 9.1 but will not
go past the LOGO/9.1 OS screen. It will either freeze at that point (with
no error message) or will give me an error 10, bus error, unimplemented
trap, or sometimes just a blank white rectangle with no error message or
bomb.
Ive pulled the Carrier card and gone back to the original 604, with the no
change.
I cannot restart using my internal CD (Yamaha burner is not bootable) but I
have an external Apple 4X that I have been able to use, in the past, as a
boot drive, but, this too, will not work, I get the same errors.
The only other change that I made, at the same time, was to change
the internal SCSI ribbon cable. It is a cable (less than a year old) that I
had been using, in my now retired 8100/AV.
Thanks
Mike Malone
