>I have been around SCSI interfaces and drives since my Apple IIe and IIgs >and come to think of it my IIci. > >I only came into the world of IDE when I got my 4400 in 1999.
SCSI is superior, IDE is cheaper and easier, hence why it was used in PCs first :). >I guess I am just wondering if there are still drives out there that have >the same pin connectors as the SCSI ribbon cable of the 7300. If not then >what do I buy to put a SCSI hard drive into my 7300 that does not come with >one. There are 50-pin drives out there, not least all the old drives people have tossed out of their 7300s :). They are rarely bigger than 4 GB though. >Seeing when the 7300 boots it will be looking for SCSI ID #0, the hard >drive, and I don't have one in my 7300. You can boot from any SCSI ID, apart from 7 which is the logic board ;). All you have to do is set the volume you want to boot in the 'Startup Disk' control panel and Mac OS will do the rest. >Some have said to look at IDE cards >and drives but I do not think you can use those as boot devices as the same >applies to those that have firewire cards but not firewire built into their >systems. FireWire drives on generic OHCI compliant FireWire PCI cards will not boot a machine without a special ROM. Most modern PCI ATA cards will boot a machine as they have the required ROM to be recognised at startup. -- -- Mark Benson Any spelling errors are attributed to PEBKAC Vintage Macs List Nanny SilValleyPirate - AIM silicon_valley_pirate_uk - Yahoo!
