SCSI is superior, IDE is cheaper and easier, hence why it was used in 
PCs first :).

There are 50-pin drives out there, not least all the old drives 
people have tossed out of their 7300s :).  They are rarely bigger 
than 4 GB though.

You can boot from any SCSI ID, apart from 7 which is the logic board 
;). All you have to do is set the volume you want to boot in the 
'Startup Disk' control panel and Mac OS will do the rest.

FireWire drives on generic OHCI compliant FireWire PCI cards will not 
boot a machine without a special ROM. Most modern PCI ATA cards will 
boot a machine as they have the required ROM to be recognised at 
startup.
