While YMMV, I haven't had any trouble with such a setup.  I picked up a
couple of SCA drives off of eBay last year when someone was selling off a
bunch of 4 gig drives from SUN systems.  I put one in the bottom drive bay
on my PM7500.  It's a tight fit, the drive runs on the hot side, and I did
have to be careful with the adapter when I put the drive in.  As for
reliability, its been puttering along for some time now.
