To all PCI Mac experts- I've loaded about 5 _clean_ installs of 8.6 (not reinstalls, though several reinstalls have done the same) onto this machine, and every time, after some time, short or as long as a week, basic finder functions continue to work, but every attempt to launch _any_ application (sometimes excepting Sherlock) goes south with an error of types 2, 3, or 11, or more rarely, a CHK error (w/mandatory restart after a CHK error).
The same problem has occurred with several prior clean installs of 8.5, which had been immediately upgraded to 8.5.1. The 6500 has 32mb RAM, w/ VM set to 64mb. I just received 2 new 64mb EDO sticks from OWC, but decided to ask you guys for advice before installing it. I have never gotten any "out of memory" messages, but then I don't think I've ever exceeded about 29mb in use with it thus far. Any help or suggestions would be welcome. I really like the machine.
