I have a PM5500/G3/300/128 running MacOS9.1 32mb of real ram is way too low in my opinion for 8.6 plus applications.
I was at 64mb for a while and then maxed to 128. Everything much more stable and maybe a bit faster. So I recommend adding that ram! (Or sell it to me? ;-) I have another 5500 with only 64 in) All the best Brian > > I've loaded about 5 _clean_ installs of 8.6 (not reinstalls, though > several reinstalls have done the same) onto this machine, and every > time, after some time, short or as long as a week, basic finder > functions continue to work, but every attempt to launch _any_ > application (sometimes excepting Sherlock) goes south with an error of > types 2, 3, or 11, or more rarely, a CHK error (w/mandatory restart > after a CHK error). > > The same problem has occurred with several prior clean installs of 8.5, > which had been immediately upgraded to 8.5.1. > > The 6500 has 32mb RAM, w/ VM set to 64mb.
