A processor upgrade SHOULD not require any new RAM.  If it does it's 
because the existing RAM is marginal.  Whether you use a 100MHz 601 
or a 500MHz G4 the bus is still accessing memory at a maximum of 
50MHz on the 7500 through 9600 PCI Power Macs.

He was trying to sell you a bill of goods.
