Bill, As many have pointed out, in all likelihood this is a problem with *your* settings, and has nothing to do with outgoing mail settings -- of which there are really none unless you are sending messages in HTML, and even then there is no way to do this in the subject line.
Now, I'm sure we would all like to stop reading this subject line (my post brings the count to 8, including your initial rant).
