Jesus is coming. Look busy.
The RESTORE disk is CPU specific and the Installer disks tend to be generic.
To make this clearer....
The RESTORE CD that came with my 6500 has the System software and the
software bundle that came included with that 6500 model. Running the
RESTORE CD will wipe the hard drive clean and put the drive back into the
condition it was in when shipped from Apple.
Some RESTORE CDs allow you to restore the entire bundled contents of the
StartUp drive OR just re-install the original SYSTEM files without affecting
your applications.
The INSTALLER CD will simply install a Macintosh System ....like OS 8.6 or
OS 9.1 or OS 7.6.......onto any Mac that will run it. The universal
Installer works for many models and only installs the software that that
model can use. For instance, it will install different versions of files on
a 68040 Mac than it would when doing the same System OS install on a
PowerPC.
