I've been changing the settings without worry a number of times when I've
had a PC monitor to try to use on a Mac. The changes usually only take
effect when you turn the monitor off & back on.

Your PC monitor may not support the Mac 1024 x 768 resolution, which usually
(at least on the Macs of early PCI vintage) runs at 75 Hz...if you try
something like like 23 (sync on green) 235 (composite sync) or 2367
(separate sync -- altho' this 1 doesn't seem to work on my 7200), you'll get
VGA (VESA) scan rates like 60, 70 or 72 Hz available, which might work. (Not
that I'd care to look at a 1024 monitor at 60 Hz for too long...) At least
those are the VGA settings on my QVC dip switch.)

A happy -- and safe -- 4th to you!
