The first thing I would check is the jumpers.  Do you know if the 'giver' had the
9 gig drive up and running at one time?

If the jumpers are fine and you don't need anything off of it, I would trash it
instead of possibly losing it later with need files on it.  Otherwise, you can
bump it a couple time to possibly get it 'unstuck' and it may turn over for you.
