It would appear that here's the rub: On closer inspection of the drive's
faceplates, it just occured to me (as it hadn't before) that they're
different in a significant way.
1 says "PLI Infinity 88 Turbo". This is the 1 that won't write to the 44s,
as I've learned. The other says "PLI Infinity 88/RW44". This is the 1 that
has a later ROM revision, & will write to them.
Now I know what that means! Duh! (Slaps forehead...)
