Possibly your drivers have gotten corrupted? Run drive setup and re-install the drivers, that might fix the problem. I have a Seagate ST15150 drive that displays similar problems, in that it will usually not mount at startup, but will after a restart or if I bang on it with SCSIProbe a couple of times.
