Critical information! I should have asked you this directly in the first
place.
Net video should be small, highly compressed and low(er) frame rates, and
this you can do easily with a 75-7600 AV. Digitise at 160x120 at whatever
frame rate seems to be best (15fps?) and a nice compression ratio, and your
system should be up to the task with a reasonably fast 604 or any G3.
You don't need to worry about interlacing or frame rate here -- but just
**make sure virtual memory is off!** Apple Video Player can be used as your
capture application and it should work just fine. Also consider any other
QuickTime-compliant capture app like Final Cut Pro or Premiere. Apple also
makes a nice little capture application called HackTV which is free for
download and offers simple capturing facilities.
I prefer Motion JPEG A as my codec, but Video might be faster to capture
(and then convert to Motion JPEG A after).
However, when you start talking about making DVDs and VCDs, this setup
will be definitely inadequate. At that stage, you'll need to shell out a
few bucks for a beefier rig.
The video I work with is intended for broadcast and TV use, and thus I need
heftier hardware (hence the G3 CPU, the hardware compression capable capture
card, and the Fast A/V SCSI disk).
