Ah swell. Well, I'll gird my loins for a run-in with HP tech support. 
Is there an alternative printer driver available anywhere? I know 
there used to be serial drivers available, I thin' it was GDT 
Softworks, Queeksdraw.

It's FreePPP, whatever the last version was - 2.5.2? I can easily 
switch over to ARA, but the users are used to FreePPP and the menu 
thngie.

Nope, nothing else in USB-land though a CD RW drive is connected from 
time to time for backups and there have been no problems with that 
other than slowness, which I expected.
