My 4X Iomega CDRW only burns at 2x with the Belkin USB card I've got in 
my 7600.

And then you need a USB 2 card. The ports in currently shipping macs are 
still USB 1.1. Moreover, Sonnet is now selling the Tempo Trio card which 
includes USB 2.0 support, for OS 9 and X. If you have nothing, this is a 
really attractive option...it's 4 controllers in one: USB, USB 2, 
Firewire and a dual channel ATA133 disk controller for $170.
