Okay, I tried to get one of the "new" drives I have hooked up as a second drive, and I added 2 sticks of VRAM at the same time. I am still having a hard time figuring out *what* needs to be terminated and whether or not it *is* terminated. (I'm not an idiot, I swear, I just play one on TV!) Anyway, I tried putting the jumper pins on the drive first one way and then the other. I tried hooking the end connector of the SCSI ribbon to first one drive and then the other.
I finally gave up and decided to put the computer back the way I found it until I was better able to put the drive on. Well, I thought I put it back the way I found it, but it's not working. When I turn the computer on, I can hear the drive spinning and the monitor light turns green. After a short while, the monitor light turns orange, and by that time, the drive is done spinning. It is an old machine, but I hope it's not dead - any suggestions? (And if anyone suggests the cuda button, please tell me where it is and refresh my memory about how long I hold it down, etc. - I've seen that on the list a number of times and really did strive to remember in case I ever needed to do it, but I just can't remember!) Also, I think part of the problem with the drive(s) is that I can't figure out where the jumpers go. The original drive is a made-for-Apple IBM drive, and the pins are on the underneath of the drive. It had jumpers on the 2nd and 3rd pins from the right - which means, I would assume, that the ID wasn't set at "0." I have a Seagate drive that I was trying to install as a second drive. It has 7 pairs of pins on the adapter and 12 pairs on the drive. I was putting jumpers on the adaptor's pins. I'm about ready to pay someone to do this, even though I *really* don't have the money, but I don't know of any individuals who work on Macs, and the only place that works on them that's "near" here (Albion, Michigan) is Eubulus, in Lansing, which charges $70 an hour to treat you like shit. I'm not sure I'm *that* desperate, yet! Thanks for any help anyone can give me, and especially putting up with my rambling! Janice -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
