Three AA batteries I series soldered (exactly 4.5v) for a P580CD two years
ago are still holding out at 3.86 volts with no leakage, so I figure they
will last up to 3 years before leaks develop. Modifying a 4-cell AA holder
so 3 cells are active is not more difficult than series soldering 3 AAs.
