One big bonus with the DVD-RAM is that it acts like a hard drive: I've
got one in a Yellowdog Linux box, and I just format the disk (with the
standard Linux ext2 file system), mount it, and write to it, read from
it, erase things-- whatever.  I don't have to generate an image and
then burn it, like I do my cd-rw (and I'm pretty sure the other
writeable DVD formats).  I wish that more people used these-- I think
the format is dying out.
