The stereo minijack used for audio input on Macs is a line level input. The extended miniplug found on PlainTalk microphones is not needed for line level devices other than the PlainTalk microphone. The PlainTalk microphone is unlike other microphones commonly used with computers; t has the extra long plug to make contact with a power source for it's internal preamp. An ordinary stereo miniplug should work fine for any line level audio device other than a PlainTalk microphone.
