Toast itself is not very large. The large part of the install is all the art work installed by Magic Mouse Discus. Magic Mouse Discus is a label printing program. Perhaps you could do a custom install and reduce the space needed. Toast is primarily a burning program so it will not do backups in the sense that Retrospect will do backups, but you can make copies of important files using Toast.
