I've got a 7500/G3 that's had startup issues for a while, and I'm finally getting sick of it. It's a server computer, so it generally is running full-time. If the power is running and it's operating fine, usually if you do a soft restart, everything is fine and it starts up just fine. If the power goes out or it somehow gets shut down, though, watch out. You'll boot it up, and it will just sit there -- screen will come on, but no drive -- doesn't even seem to even be looking for a drive. Reboots later, it's still not finding a drive -- no ? disk, just not really concerned about finding a drive to start up with.
I've found that if I put in a startup CD, and can get it to start up off the CD (which can take several reboots in and of itself), once it's running again, if I soft reboot, it will search for and find its startup drive. But, like I said, even with a CD in, it still may or may not find the CD to startup (even with the C button pressed) for SEVERAL reboots. I've tried resetting the PRAM, and that doesn't seem to have any affect on anything. Every once in a while, it might find the startup drive without starting up with a CD first, but it's VERY, EXTREMELY rare. Doesn't matter if I start it up from the keyboard or from the button on front, and it doesn't matter if I hard reboot or even shut it down completely and then try to boot it -- it just isn't really worry about finding a startup drive. What's the story, and how do I fix it? -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
