Hullo ! My name is Damien Calloway. I have a Power Mac 5400/180, that I have upgraded with parts from eBay (OS 8.6, 136 RAM, TV Card, L2 Cache) It came with a 10Mbps Ethernet Card in the COmm Slot, and an OEM 1GB HD. I Also have a Jaz drive I got from a buddy.
Now, my other three computers - PCs - are all dead now. So, I am very interested in Macs, suddenly. Here's the thing though - my Mac is prone to sudden freezes when loading web pages with a lot of graphics, or even when running 5 or 6 apps a t once, even after all the upgrades. Before I was willing to live with it, but now, since this is really the only working computer I have, it is quite unnerving. The local MUG here a while back said that the problem was the video - only 1 MB VRAM. Alas, my work schedule changed, and I cannot ask them for more advice - since the meeting ends when my shift does... :-( So, here are the options I have considered - a) get one of those L2 cache upgrades that have a G3 on it, b) get a 5500/225 from the same shop I got my Mac (is $99 a good price ?) c) get another kind of Mac altogether, or d) Burn all 4 of my machines in some sort of Luddite effigy.
