You need to have 8.5 on the system to begin with.

I don't know if just installing the USB support or not will work.

Ironically, you're probably going to find OS9 cheaper than you can find 
8.5...the 8500 will handle that no problem; it might want more memory, 
but memory for an 8500 is cheap these days; the USB card's gonna cost as 
much or more than 128 megs of RAM...
