On my 8600/G3 450, system 8.6, I have a HP scsi 12x cd writer. Although i have used it a short time, this scsi writer from hewlett packard works extremely well. Very, very, very FAST. No coasters. And it is bootable. Price: $110, new.
I also have a 24x firewire writer. The firewire writer totally sucks. It is very very slow. And it has made a lot of coasters, even though it has "Burn Proof" technology (whatever that is.) >>>One option is to buy an old used SCSI-burner. > I've used a number of SCSI CD burners on my Mac , and they have always worked with >no > drivers or extensions or anything - just plug them in and launch Toast. > So as a simple option I would go with a cheap SCSI one, they seem to be > very reliable. > Also, I have a Lacie USB writer that won't work.
