I have also found the Finder and graphics to be much faster in 8.6 than 9.1,
even when using the 9.2 Finder and OpenGL upgrades. 8.6 will also run most
applications that say they require OS 9, even with older versions of
CarbonLib. Some apps need CarbonLib 1.6, but most are perfectly happy with
CarbonLib 1.2.5. I've also got a USB-FireWire card with a USB mouse and a
(PC-labeled, no less!) 40/12/48 FireWire CD burner, all working fine under OS
8.6. I have a 9.1 partition, but have't found a reason to boot it up in
nearly 8 months.
