However, in my case Maxtor advertised a mail-in-rebate and have promptly denied me 
money they promised, and have thwarted any attempt by me to claim it.  They are 
profiting by stiffing me.  It may be as simple a thing as they have terrible rebate 
claim processing, but they are still wrong (if not more so now for implementing such a 
flawed system) and I have to tell it as it is.  If they can't rectify this now then 
maybe we are seeing the future of Maxtor, I don't know, neither do you, so let's not 
get into a silly game of generalizations.  This happened to me, and it's crap.
