Given that you only have one monitor, the easiest thing to do would be to take the hard disk out of one of the computers and put it in the other one!
The are a couple of things you need to make sure of: 1) One of the drives must have SCSI ID other than zero, since having two drives with the same ID won't work and can even, I've heard, mess up your data. You need at least one jumper to create a non-zero ID. 2) Make sure that only the drive at the end of the new SCSI chain is terminated. There is usually a temination enable (TE) jumper next to the SCSI address jumpers (A0, A1 and A2). You can probably solve both the above problems by moving the termination jumper on the drive that's not at the end to one of the address jumpers! I don't recall at the moment if the CD-ROM or hard drive is at the end of the SCSI chain in those machines. In the 6100, at least, I think it's the CD-ROM -- if your 6100 has a CD-ROM! If you do the hard drive transfer by replacing the CD-ROM, you'll need to terminate, it or not, accordingly. The 7200 does have space for a second hard drive, but, IIRC, it's not well ventilated, so you may need a second fan if you want to keep two hard drives therein for any length of time. If all you want to do is transfer data once, you can probably leave the machine open. Probably further questions will arise. Fortunately, thanks to the geographical distribution and varying sleep habits (insomnia?) of list members, there will be someone to answer them within a few hours. If you have any questions specifically about the 6100, you can also try the 1st-powermacs list. - Aaron >Date: Sun, 01 Dec 2002 00:49:57 -0500 >From: Edwin Morrow <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >Hi All, > >Just purchased a 7200/75 running 8.6 and was told I could copy over all the stuff >on my 6100/60 running 8.5 using AppleShare.
