Well, I can assure you that at least *some* CDR's are indeed
"one-plastic/one metal sided," as the lady stated. I had a beloved
Uncle Tupelo live show CDR that I spilled some Coke on one day -
although it was in a paper sleeve, the acidic "drink" that spilled
inside the sleeve actually ate the metal right off the disk face,
causing big ole' clear gaps in the CDR and marked depression instead
of No Depression.

We have a stand-alone CD copier at work that we use, in part, for the
exact need that the lady mentioned. Our flight sim lab uses X-Plane,
which require the "master" CD in the drive as a key, and these cheap
Compaq drives eat a disk up about once every quarter or so (for some
reason the edges seem to take a great deal of abuse, to the point
where the drive will net read them anymore). We keep the original
masters in storage and burn a copy when we need a new one for the
lab. Our JAG assured us that, so long as the copies were done for
this specific purpose and not for resale, to add to additional
computers above the number we purchased, or other "increase" in the
number of in-use CD's, it is perfectly legal to copy them.
