Couldn't agree more, sometimes no matter how much I take care of a CD it
just for some reason goes bad. Heat from the computer perhaps? And the
disks itself are supposed to be resistant to the heat the computer
generates. Another thing I don't know why they call them COMPACT disks,
they're huge! Not compared to records but compared to 3.5 inch disks, Zips
even a harddrive! Whatever happened to mini disks (the ones Panasonic
claimed would be the storage for the fufture)? Some drives are not even
made for those anymore. And I hope nobody says that the size will sacrifice
the space cause I wont buy it. In this world today where cameras can be as
small as the tip of your finger and computers can sit at your desktop
(compared to the 50's when they couldn't fit on your house!) I am sure they
can developt a better backup system which can store as much as 20Gigs at the
palm of your hand and make it cheap. I don't know what's keeping them. As
they say in Sears "the consumer is always right" and as long as the product
exist consumers will pay for it.

The only way your data is safe from physical damage is inside a harddrive
and the only way to keep it safe from a drive failure or a crash is
removable media. Both not 100% reliable, where are we going to really put
our trust into?

Sometimes when I am in an unfortunate situation where I loose a CD or such,
most of the times I don't go back to the store to buy it, what's the point?
That's what vendors want you to do, go back and get it again. I once had to
purchase some important CDs which I had lost, however how about the people
who copy them, and sell them in the black market? How can they keep those
from doing so? or even programs like Napster that gave Mp3s away? (yeah I
know is gone but before you know it there'll be a replacement). THose things
are still going on and the only thing they know is practically take it on
the good people, they make you pay for what others do. They keep making
these copyright laws thinking that they're gonna work and they're gonna get
more customers, for God's sake! The sad thing about it is that these
companies keep getting richer and richer and you keep getting poorer and
poorer, sometimes I even wonder why I bother buying anything other than
food. If you only had to buy something once for a lifetime like Apple
thought it would be when they made the Apple II. The thing is after you buy
one computer you've just got to upgrade every 3-4 years anyway, it's not
like a phone or a car you buy every 10 years or such. I think people who
don't have a computer should stay away from the hassle and headaches, once
you start you can't stop.
