CD drives are pretty slow, so it's unlikely you can install one that is too fast. For cd-rw, it should be able to use a 24x-32x drive without problems. <snip> > how does this G3 change the demands on my hard drive? what capacity > should I be thinking about, and spinning at what rpm speed? what > happenswhen the drive is too old, too slow, too small? what are the > parametersthat define these groups from the G3's point of view? > what is it > happiest with? > > for big ambition, i was dreaming about the sonnet tempo trio SCSI > controller in the pci slot. but it might just overwhelm the thing, > sinceit was designed originally to be a 40 bus and 160CPU. am i > dreaming too > big, here? the poor thing can't use any more than 136megs of RAM , no > matter what else i give it. sigh. if i want to be able to use USB or > firewire input, is there something else more modest I could do it with > instead? we don't have any firewire devices yet, but my son has a USB > video camera already. > > what am I looking at, here? how much of this is realistic and how much > of it am I just thinking too big about? > > janet Any ide/ata hard drive should work with the internal bus, though the sonnet cards would speed things up quite a bit and allow you to use a big new drive. I don't have much experience with the 6360, but I'll assume it can use anything you stick in there, just a little slower. That said, other listers should talk about how they (ambitiously) use their 6360's. Peter -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
