Anytime you're looking at replacing/upgrading two or more components, it's time to start thinking about buying a newer machine, unless you enjoy fiddling as a hobby, which, I'm sure, many of us do. But from an economic standpoint, it doesn't make any sense to upgrade the 6360. If you had a special AV card that only worked in that machine (like the MPEG system in 6400/6500) it might make sense, but even that kind of thing has usually been overtaken by better options on more modern machines. You should probably look at something at least as new as a Beige G3. The 6360 is pretty impaired in terms of how much RAM it can hold and the requirement for an L2 CPU upgrade limits you severely. A Beige G3 will take common ZIF CPU upgrades and goes up to 768 MB of RAM. If OWC is still running their special, you can start at 0 MB RAM and have 768 MB of RAM for $66 (3 X $22 for 256 MB SDRAM modules). And Beige G3s are commonly available in the neighborhood of $200 - $300 on Ebay. I've heard of better deals, but you can't count on getting them usually. I picked up a G3/300 with 1 MB cache, 8 GB drive, 64 MB RAM, A/V in/out card, ATI Rage Pro, 6 MB VRAM, 24X CDROM and internal ZIP for about $300 shipped back in August. Then I spent $22 on a 256 MB SDRAM module. From your list you'd only need to add an external modem and perhaps a FW/USB card to that. Prices have probably dropped some since then, so you'd certainly be able to get all the stuff you want for under $400 and end up with a machine that's still very upgradeable, rather than one creaking at the seams from all the stuff squeezed into it. One of the still newer machines with bootable/built-in Firewire/USB might be a still better option, but you start getting into trade-offs where you sacrifice SCSI and ADB on the newer machines in order to get FW/USB. I think the Yikes (or was that the Sawtooth?; the early Blue and White) had both (though no SCSI?) but I've heard that as the first New World machine, it has some reliability issues. Plus, I have no idea what the pricing is on the less old machines. Jeff Walther -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
