Howdy all! All this talk about the Fujitsu drives and hacking Drive Setup has inspired me to take one more stab at something I had given up as a lost cause.
I have a couple of Quantum Fireball 50-pin 1.05 GB drives that came from some sort of Compaq machine. They are serial no. 1050S. They have Compaq stickers on them. They power up ok and are seen by ASP and by the FWB utility. I formatted them with FWB, which worked fine (the program reported a successful format). I had them set up in my machine at the end of the SCSI chain with termination on, at ID 1. I could never get them to boot any of my macs, and I would get intermittent read/write errors with them when trying to copy files. I had given up on them as a bad job, but reading reports of people who report being able to boot from "any" sort of SCSI drive using hacked HD setup has sparked my ambition. Has anyone had any experience with getting Compaq-branded Quantum drives to work in a mac? Can anyone give me any useful advice? Thanks, Fr.
