I bet you got sent a macro virus, or a botched macro file.

Go find a file called 'normal.dot' (I don't use Word on my Macs, and 
don't have one handy right now to find it) and delete it. This should 
force Word to recreate it when you start up again, and all will be well.

This is your normal document template, and changes made to it will be 
reflected in all new documents and in Word's behavior.

Also look in the Office: Word: Startup folder and delete things there. 
(again, I'm guessing at the actual file location; I have to support that 
Microsoft pile of crap all day long, I surely don't want to go home and 
look at it!)
