Thanks Terry, Following on from my message last night, I got an email from the seller who put me right on the jumpering and via google I got to an owners manual for the drive. Quantum is now part of Maxtor. As I speak my 7600 is writing 00000s on all of the 9.1GB. Previously I have had some lousy luck with two IBM 9GB HDs - also 68pin. With the Quantum it seems happy with the 68-50pin adaptor and is chugging away nicely. Next I will run a Norton system profile to rate the drive against my previous 4GB.
